Moving Right Along...

A few weeks ago we had to go to a meeting at City Hall with the Historical Society. We had to present them our plans for the exterior, and we were approved to move forward!!! The front of the house will be completely torn down and redone. Because of foundation issues, the front has to be torn down and have new footers put in no matter what.

The left side of the exterior was in desperate need of repair! The brick wall was never tied into anything, and fell off years ago. All of that brick and insulation that fell off has just been piled up by the house, and this left the interior paneling exposed to the outside!

This week we had to rent an excavator to move all of that rubble so we can start repairing the outside.

We are saving all of the brick that we remove to use to rebuild the foundation. This brick was actually recycled from a school a few blocks away that burned down years ago!

We had to install some new support beams, remove the old dining room wall, replaced any rotted wood, and installed 3 new windows. They're beautiful, and let in so much more light!

We also removed a window in the kitchen because the microwave will be here above the oven, and we're about to put in a big new window above where the sink will be.

We have made so much progress this past month. All of the rotted floors have been replaced, all of the floor joists have been replaced, all of the foundation has been repaired, and the support beams have been installed. We also had the kitchen and bathrooms plumbed.

This is the upstairs bathroom. We removed a narrow set of stairs, covered the opening, and made the bathroom larger. It will have a new window, toilet, double vanity, storage closet, and a beautiful angled shower.

Now that most of the repairs and support work has been done, we will start working on cosmetic things!! I've already chosen the tile for the bathrooms and kitchen, the paint colors for interior & exterior, and we're still on the hunt for hardwood floors & kitchen cabinets.

This next week we plan to replace all of the plywood flooring, remove all of the drywall, put up all of the framing inside, and finishing the plumbing. We're adding a third bathroom, and I can't wait to show you where we're putting it!!

Thanks for stopping by! Hopefully next week at this time we'll have a better idea of how things will be shaping up!!
